Jeep Axle Lock

Jeep Front and Rear Axle Lock System

If equipped, the Front and Rear Axle Lock system – or Tru-Lok – allows for both wheels on the rear axle to be locked together, or all four wheels on the front and rear axles to be locked together. This improves handling in slippery driving conditions or off-road situations. Front and Rear Axle Lock will only activate when the following conditions are met:

To activate the system, push the switch up to lock the front and rear axles, or down to lock only the Rear Axle. When you lock the Rear Axle, pushing the bottom of the switch again will lock or unlock the Front Axle. To unlock the axles, push the Axle Lock Off button, to the left of the switch. The corresponding indicator light will flash, and then stay lit when the axles are fully locked or unlocked. You can also view Axle Locker status in the Off-Road Pages of your Uconnect display.

Jeep Rear Only Axle Lock system

If equipped with the Rear Only Axle Lock system, you can activate it by pressing the rocker switch down, and deactivate it by pressing the Axle Lock Off button. This feature will only activate when the following conditions are met: – the ignition is in the On/Run Position. – the vehicle is in a 4-wheel drive high range with Off Road Plus active. – Electronic Stability Control is in “Full Off” mode. – and vehicle speed is less than 20 mph or 32 km/h.

Keep in mind that the axle lock is not intended for use on dry pavement, and will disengage in certain situations. The system will automatically re-engage when all the necessary conditions are met.

Jacking and Jeep Tire Changing

First Preparing

In the event of a flat tire, first make sure you park on a firm, level surface safely away from traffic. Avoid ice or slippery areas. Turn the ignition off, turn the hazard lights on, and set the parking brake. If possible, block the front and rear of the tire diagonally opposite the jacking position. For example, if the left rear tire is damaged, block the right front tire.

Turn the bolt once counter-clockwise and remove the cover. Turning the lug nuts counterclockwise with the lug wrench. If equipped with locking lug nuts, you’ll need to retrieve the lock key from the glove box and place that over the lug nuts first. Remove the lug nuts. Then, lift the spare tire away from the carrier. Return to the flat tire and loosen the lug nuts counter-clockwise one turn while the wheel is still on the ground. Do not remove them yet.

Leather1993 want to tell you to assemble the jacking tools, connect the jack handle driver to the extension, then to the lug wrench. Place the jack under the axle tube closest to the flat tire. Do not raise the vehicle until you’re sure to engage the jack. Turning the jack screw clockwise and raising the vehicle until the tire just clears the ground, with enough clearance to install the spare tire.

Remember: minimum tire lift provides maximum stability. Now go ahead and remove the lug nuts and wheel. Place the spare tire on the vehicle with the valve stem facing out. Damage can occur if you mount the spare incorrectly. Re-install the lug nuts and lightly tighten them clockwise. Now, turn the jack screw counterclockwise to lower the vehicle.

Once on the ground, remove the jack and finish tightening the lug nuts. Alternate lug nuts until each has been tightened twice. Maximum effort should be used for the final tightening of the lug nuts. It’s always good to have the tightness checked with a torque wrench by an authorized dealer or at a service station. Now just secure the tire, jack, and tools in their proper locations, and you’re ready to go.
