Turning Safe Exit Warning On
Your Genesis is designed to keep passengers as safe as possible. This includes when passengers are attempting to exit the vehicle when parked. The available Safe Exit Warning system is designed to alert passengers when a detected vehicle is approaching from the rear after the Genesis has come to a stop To activate Safe Exit Warning, select Setup, Vehicle then Driver Assistance, then Blind Spot Safety, then Safe Exit Warning. Select the checkbox to activate.
How The System Works
When an approaching vehicle is detected from the rear at the moment a door is opened, the system will alert you. On the LCD screen, the warning message watch for traffic will appear with an indicator showing which side the vehicle is approaching from.
You will also hear an alarm sound for up to five seconds. Passengers will still be able to unlock and open the doors while the system is warning of traffic, therefore exercise extreme caution when opening the doors if Safe Exit Warning is providing an alert. The system will remain active for three minutes after the ignition has been turned off. It will automatically turn off when the doors are locked.
System Limitations
You should know that there are limitations to the Safe Exit Warning system. If a vehicle is approaching from the rear at a high rate of speed, the system may not detect it or may detect it later than normal. In addition, it may not always detect vehicles approaching from the rear that are two lanes over and it may not detect vehicles driving slower than four miles per hour.
The Safe Exit Warning system can help keep you and your passengers safe but it is only an aid. Genesis recommends that passengers always pay attention to traffic and the surrounding area when exiting the vehicle.
