How-To Operate the Lexus LC 500 Door Handle
Lexus equips The LC Convertible with the Lexus SmartAccess System that requires the key fob to be on your person when entering and starting the vehicle.
Entering with the Smart Access Key
- Approach the vehicle with the Smart Access Key with you
- Push the depression on the front edge of the driver’s door handle to unlock the door.
- The outside door handle will extend out to allow the door to be opened.
Locking the Vehicle
- When exiting, the outside door handle will extend.
- Push the rear edge of the extended door handle to lock the doors.
- If the outside door handles are extended, they will be retracted.
Using the Smart Key Fob Buttons
Press the “Lock Button” to lock the vehicle.
And Press the “Unlock Button” a second time within 5 seconds to unlock all doors.
Accessing the vehicle if the Smart Key Access Battery has lost power
- Remove the mechanical key from the Smart Access Key.
- PUSH in the depression on the front edge of the driver’s door handle.
- INSERT the mechanical key.
- TURN the key in order to perform the following actions.
To Lock Both Side Doors: Turn the key counter clockwise
To unlock the Driver’s Door: Turn the key clockwise once and turn the key again clockwise to unlock both doors

Accessing the Trunk
PRESS the trunk release button at the back of the vehicle on the right taillight to access.
Pro Tips: The Trunk opener switch can be temporarily disabled to protect the luggage stored in the trunk against theft.
Locking the Trunk and Glove Box
- Open the glove box to ACCESS trunk opener main switch
- Press the button to the OFF position
- Close the Glove Box
- Lock the glove box with the mechanical key within the vehicle’s key fob remote.
When the Trunk opener main switch is OFF, you cannot open the Trunk lid with the wireless remote control, rear trunk release or trunk release button on the dash.
Pro TIP: If you wish to secure these compartments keep the mechanical key with you when valenting the vehicle and provide only the key fob to the parking attendant.
Reengaging the Trunk Release Operation
- Use the mechanical key to unlock the glove box
- Press the trunk opener main switch to the ON position
- All compartments are now functional, return the mechanical key to the key fob
Pro tip: If the glove box does not open after the mechanical key unlocks the glove box, ensure the vehicle has proper battery power as the latch is electronically controlled.
