What is DC Charging?
AC charging is the most commonly used charging method. But rest assured there’s also a vast network of DC Charge Points that are accessible and easy to find across the UK and Ireland. And these can be found in locations such as motorway services or supermarkets to ensure you can charge your battery.
Over a shorter period of time, the charging speed is going to be dictated by your specific DC onboard charger. But PublicDC Charge Points can typically vary from 50 kilowatts right up to 350 kilowatts. Your Taycan can achieve up to 270 kilowatts and that’s because of the 800-volt battery which means the charging process can be quick. It is easy so you can carry on with your journey. You can charge via DC only on the passenger side charging port of your Taycan, while you will always find tethered cables attached to the charge point the European standard.
For DC, charging is known as a combined charging system or CCS. Therefore, rest assured for those journeys abroad the Taycan is equipped with CCS and it can be accessed on the passenger side. Ideally, charge your battery to around 80 percent when you are using a DC charge point. If you go beyond 80 the battery is designed to actively slow down the charging process as it nears completion. Therefore, going beyond 80 percent have no real benefit. Especially, if you don’t actually need the range to complete your journey.
Taycan DC Public Charging
As well as AC charge points in the UK, there’s also an ever-growing network of publicly accessible DC charge points too. Now DC charging is often referred to as rapid charging because it focuses on reducing the charge time. Most motorway services across the UK have DC charge point coverage. And more and more of these rapid charge points are appearing in urban areas to cater to drivers who may not have off-road parking.
DC charge points are tethered so this means the vehicle charging cable is already attached to the unit in the European standard. For DC, charging is known as a combined charging system or CCS now. The Taycan is equipped with CCS and it can be accessed on the passenger-side charge port of the vehicle. It’s recommended that you charge the Taycan battery to around 80 percent when charging at a DC point. If you go beyond 80 percent the state of charge can slow down quite significantly as the battery is designed to actively slow down the charging process as it nears completion.
Therefore, going beyond 80 adds no real benefit especially if you don’t actually need the range to complete your journey. In addition, to the facilities offered through Ionity and selected Porsche centers thousands of DC charge points are listed in the Porsche charging service to ensure. There are options close at hand wherever your journey takes you.

Ionity’s aim is to build 400 charge parks across Europe with approximately 45 locations alone in mainland UK and Ireland. At these charge parks the facilities provide charging speeds of up to 350 kilowatts while your Taycan can get up to 270 kilowatts due to the 800-volt battery.
So you can add around 62 miles of range in approximately 6 minutes. However, the optimum gain will allow you to charge from 5 to 80 in just over 20 minutes. And it’s such a simple and easy process to use. As you can activate the charge points using your Taycan charging card or via the Porsche Connect app.
