Safe Exit Assist uses E-Latch and the vehicle’s blind spot monitor to help avoid opening a door into oncoming traffic.

And E-Latch means that the door handles have electric buttons providing easy, finger-tip operation, with no need to pull a handle.

Pro TIP: To override E-Latch in the event of power loss, pull the lever twice to engage the mechanical release and the door will open. 

How Safe Exit Assist works

When opening the door, E-latch will not engage if a vehicle, bicyclist, or jogger is approaching from the rear.

The door will open after the object has passed.

 

Safe Exit Assist will operate with the engine running when parked, or up to three minutes after the engine is turned off.

PRO TIP: To override Safe Exit Assist, press the release button three times within two seconds, or press and hold the release button for three seconds.
