Porsche Tiptronic S and double cup lung or PDK transmissions feature automatic and manual gear shift modes. In the automatic mode with the shift lever in the D or drive position, the gear changing is automatic. By pulling the shift lever to the left from the drive position, the manual selection mode is enabled.
By pushing the lever forward from this position, you can command the transmission to up shift. A rearward pull commands the transmission to downshift. Depending on your vehicle’s configuration you can also control the transmission with the steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.

A pull on the right paddle commands an upshift, while a pull on the left paddle commands a downshift.
Other models offer selector buttons with the same functionality on both sides of the steering wheel. Pushing the button on either side forward commands an upshift, and pulling either button rearward commands a downshift.

A small symbol indicates the position of the filler cap on the right side of the vehicle. When the vehicle is unlocked you can open or close the filler flap by applying pressure to it.
Electric Parking Brake
Turning On Brake
The electric parking brake acts on the rear wheels and serves to secure the vehicle while parked. The switch is located below the ignition lock on most Porsche models. Press the brake to activate.
The brake warning light on the instrument panel illuminates to indicate that the parking brake is on.
Turning Off Brake
To release the parking brake, the engine must be running and your foot must be on the brake pedal. Pull the parking brake switch, the brake will release and the brake warning light on the instrument panel will go out.
The automatic parking brake release feature makes it possible to drive off even though the electric parking brake is on. If the engine is running the driver’s door is closed. And the drivers safety belt is fastened, the electric parking brake can detect the drivers intention to drive off and will release automatically.
Engine Start
On all Porsche models the ignition lock is to the left of the steering wheel.
First, to start your vehicle, you need to insert the ignition key into the lock. When you turn the key to the next position, you also switch on warning lights on the instrument panel light up and any electrical equipment.
For vehicles with automatic transmissions while holding the vehicles securely with the foot brake, put the selector lever into park or neutral. For vehicles with manual transmissions, you must also press the clutch pedal fully then put the gearshift lever into neutral.
You should still hold the vehicle securely, turn the key to the last position then release. If the engine starts up you can now drive off. Do not warm up the engine when stationary to avoid high revs in full throttle until the engine has reached operating temperature.
